BSNL launches rural WiMax

wimaxBharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) yesterday announced its rural wireless broadband (WiMax) service.  It was launched from Ajmer in Rajasthan and will be available in five states Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Chhattisgarh.  WiMax service offers a speed of up to 7 mbps up to 15 kms from the access point.  BSNL spent Rs. 225 crores in this project.  The rural WiMax services are offered at a starting tariff of Rs. 140 making it available to lower-income groups.
